What changes have been made to the way that carers access support services?

The Australian Government has changed the way that carer support services are delivered throughout Australia to make it easier for carers to access supports, and ensure they’re tailored to their needs. As well as introducing a range of new online supports for carers, the Government has introduced a new carer support model. This new Australia-wide network of Carer Gateway Service Providers to deliver carer support planning, tailored financial packages, in-person counselling, peer support and coaching and emergency respite care.

The changes have been introduced following two-years of stakeholder engagement and research, and based on evidence that the best way to help carers is to help them early in their caring role, increase their skills and reduce the strain of caring.
