Carers SA was successful in obtaining one of ten State Government subsidised places in the inaugural Impact Accelerator program, a series of design thinking boot camps run by Business Models Inc. to help not for profit organisations to design, test and validate new business models which provide optimal value for the people we work with, and provide new revenue streams for the organisations.

Between April and May, three Carers SA staff members spent six days working through the design journey, including how to get a deeper understanding of our customers and their needs, working through divergent thinking practices to open the mind to new product and service possibilities, quick and dirty prototyping, and testing of new models in the market on a small scale for feedback and refinement.

The Impact Accelerator program has given Carers SA the design thinking tools and innovative mindset to develop, validate and test new ideas as quickly as possible, that will provide the best value for the carers that we work with. These skills are essential for any organisation operating in the current climate of major system reforms with open market structures, and at Carers SA we are excited about how we will use these skills to enhance the lives of the carers that we support now and into the future.

On 29 May 2017 participating teams presented their programs and Minister Leesa Vlahos (Minister for Disabilities, Minister for Mental Health and Substance Abuse) presented each team with a certificate of participation.
