Earlier this year, Carers SA secured both the metropolitan and regional contracts to provide support to carers across South Australia under the newly designed carer support model. This new way of providing support, which is being implemented by the federal government and begins in April 2020, will have an impact on how services that are provided to carers will be accessed. What Carers SA looks like will also change as a result.
The changes include how carers access services and Carers SA’s stand-alone offices. Carers SA will not have its own stand[-alone offices in regional South Australia or the wider metropolitan area and some roles and responsibilities will be centralised to one metropolitan office.
The following offices are closing permanently on the dates specified;
- Mount Gambier – 24 December 2019
- Port Lincoln – 24 December 2019
- Kingscote KI – 24 December 2019
- Murray Bridge – 24 December 2019
- Western Metro – 24 December 2019
- Port Augusta – 31 January 2020
- Berri – 28 February 2020
- Victor Harbor – post May 2020
From 6th January 2020, Carers SA staff in regional locations will be mobile and may be co-located within another provider’s office or utilise community venues to run peer groups. During this time, Carers SA will look like a very different organisation as it continues to transition current services in line with the new carers support model until the full transition commences in April 2020.
