Our Partners
Carers SA is the lead Carer Gateway provider in South Australia. Established in 1990, we have teams working right across the state, from metropolitan Adelaide through rural and remote communities to the APY Lands in the far north.
Delivering across the entirety of South Australia means working alongside partners who bring specialist expertise and established community connections, so that Carers can access the right support no matter where they live or who they care for.
Between us we deliver support planning, counselling, coaching, peer support, planned and Emergency Respite, in-home support and Tailored Support Packages in metropolitan Adelaide, in country South Australia, and in the remote and very remote communities of the far north.
Cultural authority sits with organisations who hold it
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, caring is often kinship and cultural responsibility rather than a role a person takes on. It is frequently shared across a family.
Carers SA has Aboriginal workers supporting Carers across the state, and we work in partnership with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, consistent with the Closing the Gap Priority Reforms on formal partnerships and shared decision making and on building the community-controlled sector. Our partners hold the cultural authority and community standing that determine how support is delivered in their communities.
Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council
NPY Women’s Council supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Carers across the remote APY region of South Australia, an area of about 103,000 square kilometres and nine very remote communities.
At NPY Women’s Council, the Malparara way of working brings two staff members together, one with Aṉangu cultural knowledge, language and community authority and one with specific professional skills, so that Aṉangu voices guide the work. Through this partnership, Aboriginal Carers on the APY Lands receive responsive, culturally safe support that helps families remain connected to Country, community and kin.
KWY Aboriginal Corporation
KWY is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation working with Aboriginal families and communities across metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. Its name, Kornar Winmil Yunti, means men working together in Ngarrindjeri. KWY delivers culturally responsive, trauma-informed and strengths-based services, and is a Recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organisation under the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017.
Through this partnership, Aboriginal Carers can receive support from an organisation their community already knows, with cultural ways of working built into the service rather than added to it.
Our teams deliver statewide, and partners extend the reach
Carers SA delivers Carer Gateway across the whole of South Australia through our own teams in metropolitan, regional and remote areas. In places where a local organisation brings established reach or expertise, we work with them so that Carers have more ways to get support in their communities.
Country & Outback Health
Country & Outback Health is a not-for-profit organisation delivering mental health, allied health, NDIS, Aboriginal health and community services to regional and outback South Australia. Operating regional offices at Clare, Kadina, Nuriootpa, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie and Whyalla, and providing services throughout communities in the Mid North, the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas, the Flinders and the far north.
Carers and Disability Link
Carers and Disability Link is a locally operated organisation with 30 years of experience supporting Carers, older people and people living with disability across rural South Australia, with offices at Nuriootpa, Kadina, Clare and Woodside. Serving the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsula regions.
Supporting Carers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities
Carers SA works with multicultural partner organisations so that Carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds can discuss support in their own language, from Carer Support Planning through to service delivery. Counselling, coaching and peer support are available to every Carer in South Australia, and we can often match a Carer with a counsellor, coach or peer group in their own language. We also work with providers who can supply support workers who speak a Carer’s language for respite and other supports.
Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA)
MCCSA is the peak body for culturally and linguistically diverse communities in South Australia, delivering community development, disability inclusion, ageing and youth programs, along with interpreting services and cultural competency training. Through our partnership, MCCSA delivers social support programs for multicultural Carers, explains Carer Gateway in a Carer’s own language, and supports Carers through connecting with Carers SA and providing Carer Gateway supports.
Australian Refugee Association
The ARA has supported new arrivals to South Australia since 1975 and is the state’s largest Settlement Engagement and Transition Support provider. It works through bicultural case managers who share the language and background of the people they help.
Carers from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds are often managing settlement and caring at the same time. This partnership means Carer support can be identified and arranged alongside the settlement support a family is already receiving.
We also work with Chinese Welfare Services of SA, Jewish Community Services and German Community Services to reach Carers in those communities.
Support Carers of people with mental illness
Skylight Mental Health
Skylight Mental Health has supported South Australians experiencing mental health challenges, along with their families and Carers, for more than 40 years. Delivering NDIS services including psychosocial recovery coaching, support coordination and plan management, alongside community mental health programs. Supporting Carers who are caring from someone with a mental health condition and for Carers whose own mental health has been affected by caring.
A statewide network
Beyond our named partners, Carers SA works with a broad network of providers and community organisations across South Australia to deliver the support Carers rely on, including Emergency Respite when an unplanned event affects a Carer’s ability to keep caring, planned respite, counselling and in-home supports.
