Carers SA is the lead Carer Gateway provider in South Australia. With more than 35 years of experience, we have teams working right across the state. We support Carers across the full breadth of South Australia, from metropolitan Adelaide through rural and remote communities to the APY Lands in the far north.
Delivering across the entirety of South Australia means working alongside trusted partners who bring specialist expertise and strong community connections, so that Carers can access the right support no matter where they live or who they care for.
Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Carers
Culturally safe support, led by community, is central to how we reach First Nations Carers, from the desert communities of the far north to metropolitan Adelaide.
Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council (NPY Women's Council)
NPY Women’s Council is an Aboriginal organisation directed by Aṉangu women across 26 desert communities in the cross-border region of South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, including the APY Lands in the far north of the state.
As an Aṉangu-led organisation, it brings cultural authority and deep community trust to its work, with staff travelling out to remote communities to deliver support for families and Carers looking after older people and people with disability. This on-the-ground presence supports Aboriginal Carers in some of the state’s most remote areas receive respite and practical help that keeps people connected to community and Country.
KWY Aboriginal Corporation
KWY is a leading South Australian Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, delivering culturally responsive, strengths-based services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities across metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. Its cultural knowledge and community connection help us provide support that is safe, respectful and grounded in culture for Aboriginal Carers.
Reaching Carers across regional and remote South Australia
Distance should never decide whether a Carer gets support. Alongside our own teams in regional South Australia, we work with trusted local partners who bring their own community connections and knowledge of the areas they support.
Country & Outback Health
Country & Outback Health is a not-for-profit organisation delivering health, mental health and disability support across rural and regional South Australia, with teams based in communities through the Mid North, Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas, the Flinders and beyond. Through working together with Country & Outback Health, Carers in country South Australia access support without having to travel far from home.
Carers and Disability Link
Carers and Disability Link is a long-standing regional organisation supporting Carers, people with disability and older people across the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Yorke Peninsula, with local offices at Nuriootpa, Woodside, Clare and Kadina. Its established regional presence and local knowledge help us reach Carers in these communities.
Supporting Carers from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities
Carers from all backgrounds and cultures can get support in their own language, from people who understand their culture and community. We work with multicultural organisations across South Australia so that language and cultural background are never a barrier to a Carer getting the support they need.
We also work with Chinese Welfare Services of SA, Jewish Community Services and German Community Services, who support Carers from specific cultural and language backgrounds.
Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA)
MCCSA is the peak body for multicultural communities in South Australia, and a valued partner in helping us reach Carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Through MCCSA, Carers can access culturally appropriate support and be supported in their own language. Together we work to break down the barriers, whether language, cultural or practical, that can stop multicultural Carers from getting the recognition and support they deserve.
Australian Refugee Association
The Australian Refugee Association supports refugees and newly-arrived communities across South Australia. Its work helps us reach Carers from refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds, who may be caring while also settling into a new country, so that they can find culturally safe support and connection.
Supporting Carers of people with mental illness and complex needs
Many Carers support someone living with mental illness. This partner brings specialist understanding to that role.
Skylight Mental Health
Skylight Mental Health supports people affected by mental illness, and the Carers who support them. Through our partnership, Skylight provides Carers with counselling, peer support and coaching, helping Carers build confidence, connect with others who understand, and look after their own wellbeing alongside their caring role.
A statewide network
Beyond named partners, Carers SA works with a broad network of providers across South Australia to deliver the support Carers rely on, including Emergency Respite when an unplanned event affects a Carer’s ability to keep caring, planned respite, Counselling, and in-home support.
We also work alongside organisations supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans and defence families, people with disability, and children and young people. This established network means Carers can access timely, choice based, local help in metropolitan Adelaide and throughout regional and remote South Australia.
