The National Carer Network

South Australian issues reach national decisions.

As South Australia’s peak body for unpaid Carers and a National Carer Network member of Carers Australia, Carers SA brings national insight, shared expertise and collaborative innovation to strengthen Carer-centred, locally responsive support and ensures the needs of South Australian Carers are considered in National policy responses.

Through this National Network, unpaid Carers in South Australia are represented in national decisions, not only state ones. The Carers Australia network of Carer Organisations works together on problems that Carers face across Australia.

In doing this Carers SA:

  • Takes South Australian issues to national forums. Carers Australia represents Carers to the Australian Government, and the Network feeds the issues raised in each state and territory into that work, including the development of the National Carer Strategy.
  • Runs national campaigns locally. National Carers Week is an initiative of Carers Australia, delivered across the country by Network members. National Carers Week 2026 – Carers SA
  • Shares what works. Network members exchange research, resources and program design, so a good approach developed in one state can be adapted for Carers here in South Australia.
  • Brings national programs to South Australia. The Young Carer Bursary helps Young Carers with study costs. The initiative works with employers to support Carers in their workforce. Both are Carers Australia programs that Carers SA supports in South Australia.

Carer Support Network of South Australia

Community organisations working together for South Australian Carers.

The Carer Support Network of SA (CSNSA) brings together community organisations that support Carers across South Australia. It identifies and advocates for the needs of South Australian Carers, through advice to Carers SA and collective action by its members, working to elevate Carer voices, influence decision-makers and build recognition for Carer support services.

CSNSA members work together where they can, while respecting that some issues call for individual or smaller-group action. Carers SA coordinates the network’s collaborative work, including plans, papers and submissions.
