Young Carer Support

Young Carers

Ages 5 to 25

Carers SA supports Young Carers aged 5 to 25, with a focus on advocacy and information, connection, wellbeing, and social support.

Young Carer Wellbeing Booklet

This "Young Carer Wellbeing Booklet," created by Carers SA’s Young Carer Collective and Young Carer Team, is a comprehensive support resource for young carers in South Australia, ages 5 to 25.

It provides essential information to help young carers understand their role, with guidance on self-care, mindfulness, and accessing support services. The booklet features inspiring personal stories from young carers, plus tips on balancing caregiving with school, work, and personal growth. It covers practical skills for financial management, mental health, and physical well-being, empowering young carers to seek assistance and connect with valuable resources.

Young Carer Individual Support

As the Carer Gateway provider in South Australia, we offer Young Carers the full range of Carer Gateway services. Alongside these, the Government of South Australia funds more intensive support with school, services and getting involved, one-on-one or in small groups, and Young Carer Breaks.

Support with a Young Carer Connector

A Young Carer Connector works alongside you on whatever matters most to you right now. Together you set your goals, and your Connector helps you get there. That might mean talking with your school, TAFE or uni about your caring role, finding the right services for you and your family (and coming with you the first time if you’d like), help with transport, connecting with sport, clubs and your community, or planning for study and work. Support can be one-on-one, with other Young Carers in a small group, or a mix of both. You decide what you work on and how you meet.
