Whether caring for a family member with disability, mental illness, a chronic health condition, substance dependency, or age-related frailty, many employees balance paid work alongside unpaid caring roles. Creating carer-friendly workplaces helps organisations attract and retain talent, improve employee wellbeing, and build a more inclusive workforce.

Carers SA Carers + Employers Accreditation

The Carers + Employers program provides a nationally recognised framework that helps organisations build and demonstrate best-practice support for employees with caring responsibilities. Accreditation is available across three levels:

  • Level 1: Activate
  • Level 2: Commit
  • Level 3: Excel

As part of National Carers Week 2026, Carers SA will formally launch and promote the Carers + Employers program across South Australia, encouraging employers of all sizes to become leaders in carer-inclusive workplace practices.

Carers SA is proud to champion Carer-friendly workplaces across South Australia. We welcome the opportunity to work with businesses, government agencies and community organisations committed to creating workplaces where Carers are recognised, supported and valued.

Through our Vocational Pathways program we support Carers to build skills and return to work, and we work alongside employers to register with the Carer-Inclusive Workplace Initiative, so the workplace is ready before the Carer arrives. Over time that builds a network of South Australian employers we can point Carers toward.
