Carers SA works across country and metropolitan South Australia

We deliver support directly, and through partners with local presence and cultural authority. Phone, online and in person, so help reaches Carers even where the distances are greatest.

Carers SA supports Carers from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the far north to the Limestone Coast, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island in the south. Wherever a Carer lives, and whoever they care for.

Eight regions, and what we know about each

Every region we serve has a community profile: who the Carers are, what they tell us they need, and where the gaps are.

How support gets there

Where a Carer lives should not decide what support they can get. It takes local teams, referral relationships, and partners.

  • Reaching remote communities

For Carers in the APY Lands and the Far North, distance is often the biggest barrier to support. We reach these communities through local staff working in their own communities, through partners with cultural authority and local presence, and through scheduled visits timed around community protocols and seasonal access. Phone and in-person options are available where internet is limited.

  • Referral pathways

Carers are identified through remote health services, Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations and community workers, and through the Local Health Networks and Country SA PHN. When Carers travel to Adelaide for treatment, screening embedded in three metropolitan Local Health Network intakes identifies them there. We work with schools and the education sector to reach Young Carers, and referrals work both ways: referrers receive information on services, eligibility and how to refer.

  • Delivered with partners

Our teams deliver across South Australia, and partners extend that reach. Aboriginal community controlled organisations, multicultural partners and specialist services plan and run supports in their own communities, bringing local presence and cultural authority.
