National Carers Week 2026: Care for a Carer
National Carers Week, held from Sunday 11 to Saturday 17 October 2026, is a time to recognise, celebrate and raise awareness of the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend.
This year’s theme, “Care for a Carer” shines a light on the invaluable contribution Carers make every day and encourages all Australians to recognise, support and care for the Carers in their families, workplaces and communities.
Caring is everywhere. Carers are our neighbours, workmates, family and friends, often quietly providing vital support to someone they care about. Many people don’t even realise they are Carers, seeing what they do simply as part of being a partner, parent, child, relative or friend.
National Carers Week is an opportunity to make Carers more visible, build greater understanding of the diversity of Carers and their caring roles, and recognise the enormous contribution they make to families and communities across Australia.
This National Carers Week, we’re encouraging everyone to recognise a Carer, support a Carer and care for a Carer.
How Can You Show Your Support?
There are so many meaningful ways you can show your support for South Australia’s Carers.
- Reach out to a Carer you know. A simple check-in on how they are can go a long way. Let them know they are seen, valued and appreciated.
- Host a gathering. Organise a morning tea or lunch in your workplace, community group, or among friends to raise awareness of the vital role Carers play.
- Share Carers SA resources. Spread the word during National Carers Week by sharing posters, newsletters, and social media posts from our resource toolkit.
